Sometimes sitting down face-to-face with a counsellor can be confronting. Walk and Talk Therapy allows you to experience the benefits of traditional counselling, except you are walking while you are talking. You might choose to go for a walk through your favourite park, or you might opt to sit in your favourite spot outdoors.
Benefits of Walk and Talk Therapy:
When I was working with my own counsellor many years ago, we would often conduct our sessions in a nearby park. I found that being cooped up in an office often felt too confining. Having the option to “walk and talk” was of great benefit to my mental health and wellbeing. I found that physical movement during my therapy session was a great tool to help me shift my stuck emotions.
FAQ’S
Where will we meet?
We will arrange to meet at a mutually agreed location such as a park, beach or local walking track
Are there any additional costs?
The fees for Walk and Talk Therapy are the same as my normal counselling fees. However, if you require transport to and from the location, an additional fee may apply
Will people know we are having a counselling session?
Even though the session will be out in public, I will keep our appointment discreet. I'll be mindful of not talking loudly so others could hear. If an area is populated with people we can go to a quieter space and if approached, I'll take your lead. No one needs to know who I am or that we are in a counseling session.
What if I cry or get emotional?
I will carry tissues with me, and if you do get upset, we can stop, find a place to sit and rest for a bit until you are ready to continue.
What if it rains?
Unfortunately, the weather can be unpredictable. If it rains, we can opt to have your session indoors, over the phone, on skype or find an alternative sheltered location.
